Reflection
No matter what type of educator you are, you cannot expect to go into your profession with all the skills you will ever need to teach and communicate. The world has changed rapidly in terms of technology and social media has changed the face of communication forever. The educator that does not keep up with the skills needed to utilize the technologies will not be able to convey the content or the messages they wish to get across. The artifacts I chose for this standard show that I am able to use a variety of means to provide educational content and also to communicate.
- This podcast is meant to educate students on what plagiarism is, how it can happen by accident, and how they can avoid it. It was created on a Macbook Pro using the software Garage Band, saved as an audio file, and then uploaded to SoundCloud, where anyone with a link can access it. Many students prefer to learn with audio and other students may have visual impairments that require them to learn with audio. This is also a convenient way for students who have to commute to be able to hear their lesson or for parents who may need to multi-task around the house. I believe this reflects the standard by showing a fluency in technology and by the use of emerging technology.
- This brochure was created using the online design software Lucid Press. This is a two-sided brochure advertising the Instructional Technology program but the software can be used to create flyers and other graphics, such as social media content. Newsletters, brochures, and social media can be important ways to communicate services and resources to students, their parents, and the broader community. As a librarian, it is also an important part of advertising to teaching faculty. This reflects the standard by using technology to communicate in order to ultimately support students and their needs.
- Scoop.it! provide a shareable way to create collections of curated resources. This artifact displays a collection of resources for a course site. Much like other social media sites that will familiar to students, the posted resources can be “re-scooped” and can be shared from social media accounts. This resource can be used to share content with students and the wider community or used in assignments where students must gather content and justify its inclusion. I believe this reflects the standard by using a digital technology that can be reused by the students to gather information once it is demonstrated.

Future Learning Goals
I would love to learn more about graphic design and web design to facilitate better communication and to convey educational material in a way that more accessible and pleasing to view. I would also like to learn more about tools that allow for content to be shared and collaborated on. More and more students are completing programs online, and I believe that it is imperative to find way to make them feel connected with their instructors and classmates.
